Unable to Upgrade from Windows 7 or Windows 8 to Windows 10? Here's How to Fix It
Troubleshooting Windows 10 Upgrade Issues from Windows 7/8
🛠️ How to Fix 'Get Windows 10' (GWX) Not Compatible or Missing
✅ 1. Check for Windows Updates
Open the Control Panel and go to Windows Update.
Install all available updates to ensure your PC is up to date.
If updates fail, run the Windows Update Troubleshooter.
🔧 2. Use the Media Creation Tool
Visit Microsoft’s official site and download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool.
Click “Download now”, save the tool, and run it on the PC you're trying to upgrade.
Even if this didn’t work during the initial Windows 10 rollout, try again—the tool has been updated and may now support your system.
🖥️ 3. Enable DEP (Data Execution Prevention)
Go into your BIOS/UEFI settings and make sure Hardware-based DEP is enabled. Refer to your motherboard manual if you're unsure.
You can also enable DEP from Windows:
Open the Start Menu, search for “Performance”, and choose “Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows.”
Go to the Data Execution Prevention tab, select “Turn on DEP for all programs and services”, click Apply, and restart your PC.
